There was a time rookie QB’s should expect sub-par seasons in year one. Peyton and Eli Manning, Troy Aikman and many other 1st year starters now sporting a gold jacket were dreadful in their rookie season. But now days, rookie QB’s are put into situations where they can win right from the get-go.
Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Sam Bradford, Matthew Stafford, Marc Sanchez, Cam Newton, and now RG3 and Andrew Luck, respectively broke the mold. It seems as though NFL teams have very specific formula’s which is a process of NFL evolution, for insuring rookie QB’s can play well right out of the gate. The most common formula is a sound running game, but even when that luxury is not afforded to present day rookie signal callers a very simple 1st quarter plan is put into place.
Most offensive coordinators will start out with a series of short passes, screens, slants, hooks. The thought process is a few completions will usually shake the nerves for these youngsters and it seems to work well.
This is just another major shift in this wonderful game we love some much. No sport is more of a team game than football, no sport is as complex as football, and no sport puts fans on the edge of their seat like NFL football…
As this league continues to evolve on both side of the ball it become as much of a mental match up as it is a brute force physical match up, whats not to love?…
